For biographical information pertaining to B ernard's composing, arranging and recording skills and experience, read on...
As well as his considerable vocal skills, Bernard plays guitar, electric bass, keyboard, drum kit and percussion. He uses his instrumental abilities to create unique, professional quality musical arrangements in his own well equipped multi-track, 24bit digital recording studio.
His recording and arranging equipment, selection of musical instruments (both virtual and physical) and microphones include some of the highest quality available and is constantly being expanded and up-graded.
Bernard has, so far, released five solo albums and a double album of his rock opera. His four most recent albums were entirely recorded in his own studio with Bernard acting as musician, music arranger, recording engineer and producer (as well as lead and backing vocalist). Bernard’s skills and equipment enable him to truly be a one-man band, orchestra and choir.
Bernard has acted as recording engineer, session musician and producer for a number of other recording artists and has created complete backing tracks for the musicals The Yellow Star and It's Cool in the Furnace part II.
His music and technical abilities and equipment enable him to produce professional musical arrangements in rock and pop styles through to fully orchestrated pieces in operatic and music theatre styles and anything in between.
Bernard has personally written and arranged more than 50 songs, (music, lyrics and orchestration), including an entire musical of his own, Jesus – Messiah. He also wrote two songs for the musical The Yellow Star and has written a number of songs in collaboration with his sister, Virginia Lakeman who is also an accomplished music composer, arranger and educator.
Most of Bernard’s original songs contain lyrics that are Christian in nature, reflecting his beliefs.
For a synopsis of each of Bernard's six albums, read on:
"Abba, Father" is Bernard's latest album of all original, Christian music (released November 2009). This album features eleven songs plus two instrumental tracks. The physical CD (available through this web site) also contains a video clip of the title track (playable on a computer). So far, three of the songs on this album are being played on Christian radio stations in Australia, including "Hallelujah", "The Lord's Prayer" and "At the Foot of My Cross."
"Christmas Joy" is comprised of four of Bernard's original Christmas songs together with traditional carols all with Bernard's unique musical arrangements and soaring vocals. A number of tracks from this album have received radio airplay.
"Jesus-Messiah the musical" is a double CD concept album of Bernard's all original rock opera. Bernard sings the title role and is joined by his talented friends, many of whom, like him, have international singing careers. This is 90 minutes of quality singing and pure listening pleasure.
"Theatrix – on the stage" features songs from and inspired by his career in commercial music theatre and opera.
Bernard’s second solo album is titled The Lord’s House. Ten of the fourteen tracks on this album are Bernard’s own compositions and he plays all the instruments. His daughter Amanda features in the David Meece song My Father’s Chair.
His first solo album "Risen" features six songs from the musical Jesus-Messiah along with four other compositions of his own and one that is a collaboration with his sister Virginia, on which Bernard’s two daughters, Christy and Amanda feature.
