Most of the songs Bernard writes contain lyrics that are Christian in nature, reflecting his beliefs.

He has personally written and arranged more than 50 songs, (music, lyrics and orchestration), including an entire musical of his own, Jesus – Messiah, and two songs for the musical The Yellow Star. He has also written a number of songs in collaboration with his sister, Virginia Lakeman.

As well as his considerable vocal skills, Bernard plays guitar, electric bass, keyboard and drum kit and uses his instrumental abilities to create his own musical arrangements in his own well equipped multi-track, 24bit digital recording studio.

Bernard has so far released four solo albums, a double album of his rock opera and a single.

"Christmas Joy" is comprised of four of Bernard's original Christmas songs together with traditional carols all with Bernard's unique musical arrangements and soaring vocals.

"Jesus-Messiah the musical" is a double CD concept album of Bernard's all original rock opera. Bernard sings the title role and is joined by his talented friends, many of whom, like him, have international singing careers. This is 90 minutes of quality singing and pure listening pleasure.

"Theatrix – on the stage" features songs from and inspired by his career in commercial music theatre and opera.

Bernard’s second solo album is titled The Lord’s House. Ten of the fourteen tracks on this album are Bernard’s own compositions and he plays all the instruments. His daughter Amanda features in the David Meece song My Father’s Chair.

His first solo album "Risen" features six songs from the musical Jesus-Messiah along with four other compositions of his own and one that is a collaboration with his sister Virginia, on which Bernard’s two daughters, Christy and Amanda feature.

Bernard's single is comprised of two songs expressly written for an Insight for Living crusade given by the American Evangelist and Theologian Charles (Chuck) Swindoll - Abba Father and Worship The Lord.

He has also recorded other artists in his studio, acting as session musician, recording engineer, music arranger and record producer.

Bernard has also created complete backing tracks for the musicals The Yellow Star and It's Cool in the Furnace part II.
