On The Stage
(Theatrix)

music and lyrics by Bernard Hull

Time to get ready, the show is about to begin,

Open the theatre, and let all the audience in,

Finish your makeup, the overture’s almost begun,

Put on your costume, it’s time to prepare for Scene One,

Dim all the house lights, and let’s get this show underway,

Cue the conductor, the orchestra’s ready to play,

Raise up the curtain, bring up the lights,

It’s Opening Night!

On… The…. Stage you can be any person you dare,

From a chess playing champ, to a rich millionaire,

You can join in the Great Revolution in France,

Or be part of the war in Vietnam, per chance,

You can fight to save lives from Madamme Guillotine,

Or perhaps, join a gang, and be just seventeen,

Yes, the theatre is just what a thespian loves,

Where a thespian does what a thespian does,

There’s no need to act your age,

When you’re strutting on the stage,

Yes, the theatre’s the place you can journey in time,

And without even leaving your seat,

You can travel to cities in far away lands,

And you’ll find yourself tapping your feet.

If you want to stand up to injustice, you can,

Or you may just prefer to be Bohemian,

You can be full of hope, or distraught with despair,

Be bitter and twisted, or ex’trodinaire,

You could be so deformed, you hide half of your face,

And cause murder and mayhem,

All over the place,

Yes, the theatre is where every thespian dreams,

Of an opening night where the audience screams

So much that it hurts your ears,

And the show runs on for years,

Yes, the theatre’s the place you can journey in time,

And without even leaving your seat,

You can travel to cities in far away lands,

And you’ll find yourself tapping your feet,

When you get, to the end of the song,

You can bet, and you’d rarely be wrong,

That the singers will show off their vocal prowess,

So the very last note that you hear,

Will be held on from here until … there,

With a wide open throat,

That spectacular note,

Will be held on, ‘til we run out…..

Of air…!
